Accepting Applications: Postdoctoral Position in Dryland Ecology and Synthesis

Jornada Basin LTER Post-Doctoral Fellow

New Mexico State University is seeking qualified applicants to contribute to research in dryland ecology at the Jornada Basin Long-Term Ecological Research (JRN-LTER) site.  The post-doctoral fellow will contribute to synthesis and analysis of long-term field data, landscape-to-regional scale integration and modeling of vegetation change in response to climate and land management. Successful applicants will join a collaborative team of field ecologists, modelers and data scientists.

Responsibilities: Contribute to JRN-LTER and LTER-network synthesis activities that leverage ecological theory relating to state-change and resilience in dryland ecosystems, long-term field data, geospatial information and modeling. Collaborate with LTER personnel for analysis and publication of results.  Contribute to and lead publications and proposals. We seek candidates with interests in data integration for ecological inference, ecological modeling, data assimilation and/or modern data science approaches (e.g. Bayesian inference, machine learning, etc.).

Preferred qualifications, skills and experience: PhD in ecology, geography, geosciences or related field, with a strong emphasis on data synthesis and computational ecology. Interest in dryland ecology research and contributing to JRN-LTER programs. Experience with analysis of long-term and diverse field datasets, integration of field data with geospatial data, and/or model-data assimilation. Proficiency with open programming, statistics, and data visualization tools (R, Python, etc) is a plus, as is a general interest in open science and reproducible research practices. Publication record commensurate with academic level.  ABD candidates with Spring 2021 completion date may be considered.
